The
Royal Air Force (RAF) is the aerial warfare service
branch of the British Armed Forces. Formed on 1
April 1918, it is the oldest independent air force
in the world. All RAF assets opertae under a single
Air Command based at RAF High Wycombe. Nine Expeditionary
Air Wings (EAW) will be formed at as many main operating
bases (RAF Coningsby, Cottesmore, Kinloss, Leeming,
Leuchars, Lyncham, Lossiemouth, Marham and Waddington).
The British Royal Air Force operates 501 Combat
Aircraft.
Personnel: 39,700.
