New batch of Su-30SM fighter jets delivered to Russian Western Military District air regiment
 
A batch of Su-30SM fighter jets has conducted a flight from the airfield of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant to an air regiment of the Western Military District stationed in Kursk Region, according to the press department of the district.

"The regiment has received two Su-30SM supermaneuverable fighters during systematic rearmament. The aircraft will join the unit and go on duty to defend aerial borders. The pilots have finished retraining at the Lipetsk Aviation Center of the Aerospace Forces [VKS] and conducted first flights with the usage of air-launched weapons," the press department said in a statement.

The squadrons armed with the Su-30SM fighter jets will get advanced simulators to train pilots.

Considered as 4+ gen jet fighter, the Su-30SM is a specialised version of the thrust-vectoring Su-30MKI and MKM variants for the Russian military, produced by the Irkut Corporation. The Russian MoD signed a contract for 60 of the multirole fighter was signed in March 2012 with delivery starting by 2016.
