Xsight Systems selected to boost Israeli Air Force runways safety

RunWize, the leading Runway Management Solution by Xsight Systems, was selected by the Procurement and Production Directorate of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (MOD) to be installed on the Israeli Air Force runways. The MOD chose RunWize after evaluating number of available technologies, the company said on Oct. 3.

This is the major procurement by an Air Force of an automated runway management system with a FOD (Foreign Object Debris) detection capability. The RunWize installation will help improve runway safety, availability and efficiency by accurately and truly revealing the runway's situation. The Xsight system is expected to be fully operational within a few months.

RunWize, based on FODetect, is an automated FOD solution collocated with runway edge lights and is the most powerful solution available today. RunWize automatically and continuously scans operational areas or defined hotspots and uses sophisticated image and radar processing algorithms to monitor runway conditions. Whether its day or night, the system learns the surface and by applying artificial intelligence the system helps watch out for FOD, wildlife and runway status, and even during inclement weather conditions.

Following agreement Xsight Systems CEO Alon Nitzan expressed his excitement about this important milestone.

"We are proud to be the pioneers to enter the military market for automated FOD detection solutions, and to provide the Israeli Airforce with technology that automate runway monitoring to ensure continuous operational functionality. This is a huge milestone for the company and for the market, opening up new opportunities and functionalities for close-range runway sensing, supporting the need to protect strategic and precious assets such as the F-35, F-15 aircrafts, from FODs and Birds costly damages".

FODetect is operational and enabling safe aircraft operations at Boston Logan International Airport, Seattle Tacoma International Airport, Tel Aviv Ben-Gurion International Airport and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. FODspot™ subsystem has been acquired by Paris's Charles de Gaulle International Airport.

FODetect is fully compliant with FAA regulation meeting and exceeding the Advisory Circular's highest performance levels. FODetect is also eligible for USA federal funding through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) programs.
