Kuwait City - The first International Defence Exhibition GDA 2011, Gulf Defence and Aerospace, Kuwait, was inaugurated yesterday by Sheikh Ali Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, Governor of Mubarak Al-Kabir governorate (seen in the picture with the Italian Ambassador in Kuwait, Fabrizio Nicoletti at the Eurofighter stand).

Eurofighter participates in the event with a stand displaying a range of the latest technologies under development such as the Captor-E AESA radar and the new Helmet Mounted Symbology System for the pilots (already under delivery with the four partner nations air forces).

The exhibition showcases defence, aerospace and security equipment from Dec 12 to 14. There are more than 100 exhibitors from 23 countries including Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

According to a defence market intelligence survey 'Forecast international', the GCC countries (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain) invested $63 billion in defence and security spending in 2010 and this figure will increase in 2011 to $65 billion. In fact, offset specialist Blenheim Capital Partners estimated that the GCC states will spend in excess of $105 billion in the next two years.
