Russian State Flight Test Center to be first to receive MiG-35 fighters

Russia's State Flight Test Center in Akhtubinsk in south Russia will be the first in the Aerospace Force to receive Mikoyan MiG-35 (NATO reporting name: Fulcrum-F) fighter jets after their state trials are completed, Air Force Commander and Aerospace Force Deputy Commander-in-Chief Andrei Yudin said.

Yudin made this statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the Aviation Technology Demonstration Center in Kubinka in the Moscow Region.

Then, MiG-35 fighters will be delivered to the flight personnel training and conversion center in Lipetsk in central Russia, which incorporates the Kubinka airbase, Yudin said.
The Swifts aerobatic team operating MiG-29 (Fulcrum) fighter jets will be among the first to receive advanced MiG-35 planes.

"Pilots of the Swifts aerobatic team are planned to convert to the MiG-35 fighter. The state trials of the plane are nearing completion. After the tests are completed, fighters of the type will be delivered to a squadron of the Swifts aerobatic team," the Air Force’s commander said.

Yudin also said that pilots of the Russian Knights aerobatic team had mastered Sukhoi Su-30SM (Flanker-H) fighters.

"The Su-30SM is a 4++ generation plane with high combat capabilities, including flying ones. As of today, the Russian Knights aerobatic team has fully mastered the fighter jet. The pilots are performing pair and head-on flying, in addition to formation flying," Yudin said.

The MiG-35 is a 4++-generation multirole fighter jet. It is a derivative of the serial-produced MiG-29K/KUB (Fulcrum-D) and MiG-29M/M2 (Fulcrum) combat planes. The flight tests of the MiG-35 plane began on January 26, 2017. On January 27, 2017, it was presented in the Moscow Region.

As President of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation Yuri Slyusar said, a contract for the delivery of MiG-35 planes to the Russian Aerospace Force may be signed this year.

The Kozhedub Aviation Technology Demonstration Center is located at the Kubinka airbase. It is composed of the Swifts and the Russian Knights aerobatic teams.
