Russian fighter jets practice touch-and-go exercise on highway

A Sukhoi Su-34 frontline bomber and two multirole Su-30M2 fighter jets have made the first ever touch-and-gos on a highway in tactical flight exercise of the Southern Military District’s 4th Air Force and Air Defense Army, district spokesman Vadim Astafyev told TASS.

"The landing of three tactical-class fighters passed in a conveyor way: the aircraft touched the asphalt and, after running several dozen meters along the road, again soared to the sky," the spokesman said, adding that the maneuver was carried out on the highway from Rostov to Volgograd regions.

It was for the first time in the history of Russian Aerospace Forces that heavy fighters "landed" on a highway. Before that, this maneuver was carried out only by attack aircraft and light fighter jets.

The pilots landed their planes thrice on the 18-meter wide highway. Army Commander Viktor Sevostyanov piloted one of the jets.
