KRET about to complete trials of new Mi-28NM laser jamming station
 
The Radio-Electronic Technologies Group (KRET), part of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec, will complete trials of an advanced laser jamming station in the imminent future, Adviser to the KRET First Deputy CEO Vladimir Mikheyev said on Friday, May 20.

The new laser jamming station is designed to be mounted on the upgraded Mil Mi-28NM (NATO reporting name: Havoc) combat helicopter to protect it from hostile missiles, the adviser added.

"The laser jamming station is designed to confuse the enemy’s incoming missiles. There are plans to complete the trials of the laser jamming station in the imminent future, receive the corresponding lettertype to start its serial production and equip all helicopters that are being produced with this system," Mikheyev said.

According to the adviser, the laser jamming station will increase the helicopter’s survivability considerably and protect it from operational and future missiles with thermal homing heads.

As KRET Deputy CEO Igor Nasenkov said, another laser jamming station designed for the export version of the Mi-28N helicopter, the Mi-28NE, has already passed trials.

The first serial-produced laser jamming stations of this type have been delivered to the customer, the deputy CEO added.

According to Nasenkov, this system was unveiled at the HeliRussia 2014 show.

The system passed trials by early 2016. The first systems have already been delivered to the customer to equip helicopters designed for export.
