Belgium's F-16 fighters will start bombing Daesh in Syria from July
 
Six F-16 fighter jets from the Belgian Air Force will start bombing missions in Syria from next July, the belgian minister of Defense Steven Vandeput announced today on the local radio VTM. According to Le Soir newspaper, the decision to expand the geography of operations to Syria was made by the Belgian authorities.

As for previous belgian bombing campaigns, the six F-16s will operate from an air base in Jordan. The belgian authorities have also prolonged the participation of the Belgian air force in operation in Iraq.

A few months ago, the United States formally asked Belgium on the possiblity of sending combat aircraft to help in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria.

"I think we can not restrict our intervention to Iraq and the terrorist groups fighting on the border", the belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders then said.
