Northrop Grumman Corporation's Laser Systems business unit has announced its new Viper™ 2.1 laser, featuring a form factor and interface for use on all directed infrared countermeasure (DIRCM) systems. The Viper™ 2.1 is the latest in the family of Viper™ lasers designed specifically for DIRCM systems. After five years of funding, development and testing, the Viper™ 2.1 will soon be ready for full-scale production alongside the venerable Viper™ family of DIRCM lasers.

CPI Aerostructures, Inc. announced on Monday, November 17, that it has received a U.S. Government prime contract from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to provide structural wing components and logistical support for global F-16 aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul operations. DLA Aviation, Richmond, VA is the contracting activity. CPI Aero will support wing MRO efforts for both the U.S. fleet of more than 1,000 F-16 aircraft as well as the nearly 1,900 F-16s flown by air forces around the world.

BAE Systems Air5428 pilot training platform, Beechcraft’s T-6C military trainer, will be used to train the next generation of United Kingdom military pilots. On behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence, the Ascent consortium recently selected the Beechcraft T-6C as the aircraft to complement the BAE Systems Hawk T2 in the training pipeline to conduct fixed wing flight training for the Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Navy (RN) and Army Air Corp pilots.

According to the CEO of the Russian Helicopters Alexander Mikheev, the technical configuration of the joint Russian and Chinese heavy-lift transport helicopter is going to be determined by February 2015. It was previously reported that the Russian and Chinese heavy-lift helicopter was planned to be developed based on the technologies of Mi-26T — the heaviest helicopter in the world produced by Rosvertol (part of Russian Helicopters).

The formal handover at the Police Aviation Unit facilities in El Callao was attended by both Peruvian and French officials, including Peru’s interior minister Daniel Urresti and Daniel Leimbacher, chief of the Central Air Command of the French Gendarmerie, along with representatives of Airbus Helicopters.

The first air-launched hypersonic missiles could be produced in Russia within the next six years, Boris Obnosov, general director of the Tactical Missile Systems Corporation, stated Thursday. "In my estimation, the first hypersonic products should appear … in this decade — before 2020. We have approached this. We are talking about speeds of up to six to eight Mach. Achieving higher speeds is a long term perspective," Obnosov told journalists at the Airshow China-2014 space exhibition.

This event took place in Marignane, where the helicopter was built, in the presence of Lt General Clement, General Director of Material and Resources. This helicopter will be based in Beauvechain, home of the 1st Wing. It will be used for Tactical transport and utility missions.
