Brazilian society Flight Tech announced the first export sale of its unmanned aerial vehicle Horus FT-100 to an undisclosed African country. The Brazil-based manufacturer will deliver the three aircrafts in the second half of 2014. The contract also includes options for further deliveries the following year, as well as covering logistical support.

According to Infodefensa.com, this is the first operation of its kind in the history of the Brazilian defense industry and carries a very important geopolitical significance. The Horus FT-100, developed for the Brazilian Army through the Military Institute of Engineering (IME) and the Technology Centre of the Army (CTEX), is an electrical short range UAV that can be carried in a backpack and operate at platoon, company or battalion level in target acquisition, perimeter security recognition and close support during infiltration activities, among others.

It is a dual-use drone, military and civilian both, because it is also capable of conducting operations in areas such as agriculture, mining and environmental control, between others interested in using drones for mobility and flexibility for short-range surveillance.
