Russian Eastern district receives Mi-8MTPR-1 electronic warfare helicopters


Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopters were supplied to the air force and defense formation of the Eastern Military District in late 2020, the Defense Ministry said: “The helicopters were delivered to the district by An-124 heavy airlifter from Ulyanovsk. They were then relocated to air units of the formation”. The delivery completed the supplies to the district scheduled in 2020.

The Mi-8MTPR-1 is a standard Mi-8MTV-5-1 with a ‘Rychag-AV’ active jamming station installed onboard. The helicopters are designed to Mi-8MTPR-1 is equipped with active Rychag-AV jammer, which can blind the adversary in a radius of several hundred kilometers. It is able to detect and suppress electronic command-and-control systems as well as the radars of surface-to air and air-to-air missiles. The memory keeps data on various threats to defended objects, determines the type of the target and selects proper jamming. The system is made of Russian components and can be carried by airplanes and helicopters, stationary and mobile ground objects, and warships.

The Defense Ministry and Radio-electronic Technologies Concern signed an acceptance act for the first Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopter at Army-2020 forum. The Russian Ministry of Defence is set to eventually receive a total of 18 of these helicopters. The first 12 ones were delivered in the first half of 2016.
