Russian Air Force receives new smart bombs

The Russian defense industry launched the batch production of new smart bombs. K08BE, K029BE, and KAB-250LG-E will be soon delivered to the troops, the Independent Military Review writes. Tactical Missiles Corporation completed trials of a new family of air bombs of 250, 500, and 1,500 kg. Region enterprise will produce the new bombs. Contracts for the new bombs have been signed and batch production launched. Trials of bombs for Su-57 aircraft are ongoing.

A new generation of smart bombs with better capabilities and characteristics has been accepted into service. They were created with common components to simplify design and decrease costs. All bombs glide to the target. It increases the release range and combat qualities. The bombs differ in yield and guidance.

KAB-250LG-E is 3.2-meter long. The diameter is 255 mm and the weight is 256 kg (165 kg is the high explosive fragmentation warhead). The explosive charge weighs 96 kg. The bomb has a contact fuze with three delay regimes. It is armed with a laser homing warhead.

KAB-250LG-E was designed for frontline aviation. It is released from altitudes of up to 10 km. Target illumination by the carrier or advanced air controller is necessary. The circular probable error does not exceed 5 meters. The bomb can attack vulnerable hardware and unprotected stationary buildings.

K08BE or UPAB-500B-E bomb is a bigger weapon to destroy pinpoint and site targets with known coordinates. The cylinder hull is 2.85-meter long with a diameter of 355 mm. The weight is 505 kg and the warhead weighs 390 kg. There are wings and rudders outside. The bomb has a contact multi-regime fuze. Combined inertial and satellite guidance is used. Operational-tactical aircraft can release it from an altitude of up to 14 km to destroy targets at a distance of 40 km from the point of the release. The expected bias is 10 meters.

K029BE or UPAB-1500B-E bomb is similar to K08BE, but is bigger and has a triangular wing. The bomb is over 5 meters long and the diameter is 400 mm. It weighs 1525 kg and the high explosive concrete-piercing warhead weighs 1010 kg. The guidance is inertial and satellite. If released from an altitude of 15 km, the bomb can hit a target at a distance of 50 km with an expected bias of ten meters. It was designed against solid and protected targets — bridges, command posts, and industrial facilities.

The gliding bomb allows the carrier to release it without entering the air defense zone. The bomb retains precision and power.

In 2022, Drel PBK-500U cluster bomb of Basalt company is to be supplied. Bombs of 50-100 kg are designed for drones.

Tecmash Concern designed new software and analytical complex for precision munitions. It increases strike precision in conditions of electronic warfare. The new electronic protection system provides detailed target information in conditions of active jamming with changing intensity.

New-generation munitions have an artificial intelligence function and are the most effective means of destruction. Designers say their main success was the creation of electronic equipment invulnerable to electronic warfare. It was designed by the Research Institute of Electronic Devices (NIIEP), which is the leading enterprise in close-range location and avionics for munitions. The equipment exceeds Russian and foreign analogs in the protection of the bomb against disturbances and reduces electronic warfare to zero.
