Russian combat planes fly to Western District airfields to take part in naval parade


According to Tass News Agency, combat planes and helicopters of naval air forces have redeployed to airfields of the Leningrad air and air defense army to take part in the Main Naval Parade due to take place in St. Petersburg on July 26, the Defense Ministry’s press office said.

"More than 60 planes and helicopters of the Aerospace Force, the Baltic, Northern, Black Sea and Pacific Fleets have redeployed to four airfields in St. Petersburg, the Leningrad and the Vologda Regions, and the Republic of Karelia," the press office said.

Ground personnel provided maintenance for the aircraft, while the flight crews started preliminary training to familiarize themselves with flight routes, flying conditions and meteorological features of the region.

Sukhoi Su-24M (NATO reporting name: Fencer), Su-25 (Frogfoot), Su-30SM (Flanker-H), Su-33 (Flanker-D), Mikoyan MiG-29K (Fulcrum), Su-27 (Flanker-B), A-50 (Mainstay), Ilyushin Il-78 (Midas), Beriev Be-200, Tupolev Tu-142MK (Bear), Il-38 (May) planes and Mil Mi-8 (Hip), Kamov Ka-27M (Helix), Ka-29 (Helix-B) and Ka-31 (Helix) helicopters will take part in the parade.
