Telephonics awarded AN/UPX-40 IFF contract to support Royal Saudi Air Force AWACS program


Telephonics Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Griffon Corp., has been awarded a $12.6M AN/UPX-40 contract from the United States Air Force. Through a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement, Telephonics will supply its AN/UPX-40 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system to the Royal Saudi Air Force to support the country's E-3 Sentry (AWACS) program.

Telephonics' next generation AN/UPX-40 will include Mode 5 capabilities allowing for expanded data handling transmissions without increasing interference.

The AN/UPX-40 IFF system was the first interrogator to be All-Mode certified, and can be configured for shipboard, airborne or ground-based applications allowing for mission systems to identify aircraft or ships as friendly or unknown.
