US Air Force gives new smart weapons capability to its B-52H strategic bomber fleet
 
Since the US Air Force's decision in 2013 to increase the B-52H bomber fleet's effectiveness and versatility by increasing the aircraft's smart weapons capacity by over 50 percent, teams from Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., Boeing and, now Edwards, have partnered up to begin developmental testing on the "Buff's" newest upgrade.

Rafael’s SPICE (Smart, Precise Impact, Cost Effective) air-to-surface precision guided glide bomb family has been significantly reinforced recently with the addition of the new SPICE-250, reports today Israel Defense. Unlike previous models in this category, which offered a smart conversion kit for Mk-83 and Mk-84 general purpose bombs, the SPICE-250 offers a complete solution with a 250 pound (100 kg) warhead to a range of 100 km.

An advanced electronic warfare (EW) suite developed by the DRDO has been successfully tested onboard India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas-PV1. "After obtaining due flight clearances and certification, the first flight sortie of LCA PV1 with the EW equipment operational took place today [Saturday, January 10]. The equipment was noted to be detecting radar signals operating in and around the flight path," a Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) release said.

Boeing has improved the realism of ground-based F-22 Raptor training by delivering the first simulators for that aircraft with an immersive, 360-degree visual environment. Two simulators were installed, each paired with the Constant Resolution Visual System (CRVS), Boeing’s patented display that provides high-resolution imagery for pilots to train with nearly 20/20 acuity.

The Shaanxi Y-9 aircraft is a transport aircraft produced by Shaanxi Aircraft Company in China. It was developed as an improved version of the Shaanxi Y-8F with greater payload and range. The Y-8F is based on Soviet Antonov An-12.

For three days, visitors could board several aircrafts, both ancient and actual, from more than twenty different countries and numerous aerobatic teams such as French Acrobatic Patrol, Jordanian Falcons and British Red Arrows. Air Recognition attended the event and brings you a special photo report.
