Russia will hand over two An-26 transport planes to Serbia as part of military and technical cooperation, Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin said.

"The agreement between Russia and Serbia on cooperation in the military and technical sphere is being implemented in strict compliance with the accords. Under this agreement, two An-26 transport planes will arrive in Serbia," the minister said while visiting the hangars at the Batajnica airfield where six Russian MiG-29 fighter jets transferred to the Balkan country are being upgraded.All the fighter jets will enter service before the end of 2018.

Five Serbian pilots will go to Russia to train operating MiG-29, the defense minister said.In an interview with TASS, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic earlier said that Serbia was in talks with Russia on purchasing six Mi-17 multirole helicopters, and also air defense systems.

Following Vucic’s visit to Moscow, Russia and Serbia reached an agreement on establishing a helicopter maintenance center near Belgrade.In October, the Serbian Air Force received six MiG-29 fighter jets handed over by Russia as part of military and technical assistance. In addition Serbia will also get 30 T-72 tanks and 30 BRDM-2 reconnaissance and patrol vehicles from Russia for free. Serbia is also holding talks with Russia on Buk-M1 and Buk-M2 air defense missile systems and Tunguska antiaircraft missile guns.
