Belgian MoD to sell all govt white fleet, switch to private companies

The Belgian Council of Ministers agreed to sale the country's Defense commercial transport aircraft fleet (white fleet) and to launch a public procurement procedure to fully privatize this capability, the Prime Minister press office stated on January 12, 2018. |

The Belgian MoD conducted a study "to verify whether its military operational requirements for this type of transport could be fulfilled by a civil service contract, while respecting the current level of availability at a lower cost," the statement said.
The MoD plans to conclude a 8-years leasing contract, with possible extension for four years. The current fleet will be sold, the statement added. The Defense white fleet currently support military operations by carrying passengers in commercial aircraft, VIP flights and transport of political authorities, such as the King of Belgium, members of the Belgian government, European authorities, etc. While the official statement mentions "Five aircraft of two types", it is known that the BAF today flies Dassault Falcon 20-5 and 900B (one of each), and Embraer ERJ-135 and ERJ-145 (two of each) business jets. The Air Force is also leasing a sole Airbus A321 airliner from Avico. |
