The chopper, developed by the Motor Sich aircraft equipment producer, has taken to the skies from the helicopter aerodrome in Zaporizhia city in southeastern Ukraine, the Zaporizhia regional administration said.

"We were waiting for this for ten years, and today we will make the first flight. The certification will last for a year. We submitted an application to two organizations - the national certification center of the Ukrainian aviation administration and the international certification committee," President and General Aircraft Designer of JSC Motor Sich Viacheslav Bohuslayev said.

Equipped with two turbocharged engines, the Nadiya is a multipurpose helicopter which can be used on rescue, medical aid and patrolling missions.

The chopper has a seating capacity of up to 10 people, a maximum speed of 230 km per hour and a flying range of 720 km.

Previously, Ukrainian enterprises only produced small helicopters which can cover a distance of no more than 600 km.
