This event marks an important and significant beginning for prototype testing of LUH. This is the third indigenous helicopter product from the stables of HAL after ALH and LCH.

The Indian military have a requirement for 384 helicopters of which 187 helicopters will be built by HAL. Production is planned to begin in 2018 at 10 per year, later on going up to 36 per year and delivery of 187 HAL’s LUHs is to be completed by 2022.

Apart from replacement of ageing fleet of Cheetah / Chetak, LUH is expected to capture a sizeable share both in domestic and international market.

The LUH has a maximum All-Up-Weight (AUW) of 3150 Kgs and is fitted with Safran HE Ardiden-1U engine of 750 KW power. It features a range of 350 Km, a service ceiling 6.5 Km, and a seating capacity of six passengers plus two pilots. The helicopter is designed to carry out various utility roles such as reconnaissance, transport, cargo load and rescue operations. The helicopter can operate from sea level to high altitudes of Himalayas.
