The Russian Helicopters Holding (part of Rostech Corporation) handed over a batch of four military transport Mi-171Sh helicopters to the defense ministry of Angola, the press service of the holding said.

"The helicopters were produced and tested by U-UAZ enterprise and then airlifted by An-124 Ruslan to Angola where they were reassembled at the base of the customer with all the necessary tests and finally handed over to the defense ministry of the African country," the press service said.

It said the new batch was delivered in addition to four helicopters supplied in 2015. The contract for the supply of helicopters was signed by the Russian Rosoboronexport arms trader.

The holding said the helicopters have modern piloting and navigational equipment. The flight range was increased to 1,065 km due to additional fuel tanks. The rotorcraft are equipped with rescue hoist to lift up to 300 kg, folding seats, stretchers for 12 people, as well as external sling to carry large size loads of up to 4 tons.

The Mi-171Sh is the export version of the Mi-8AMTSh combat transport helicopter. Armed assault version of the Mi-8AMT, can carry the same range of weapons as the Mi-24 including the "Shturm" ATGM.

The helicopter can transport up to 4,000kg of cargo externally under sling. The Mi-171Sh is powered by two Klimov TV3-117VM turboshaft engines or can be optionally fitted with two VK-2500 turboshaft engines, each rated at 2,700hp.
