Singapore's RSAF Decides to buy 12 more F-15SG
US Air Force F-15 Strike Eagle from Boeing Industry
At the dawn of the 21st Century, Singapore decided that it needed a new aircraft to replace its often-upgraded A-4SU Super Skyhawks. In December 2005, a contract is formally signed to produce 12 F-15SG aircraft. All 12 aircraft will be delivered in 2008-2009, and Singapore has an option for 8 more planes. In September 2005, Singapore's MINDEF announces that the F-15SG Strike Eagle has been selected to replace its A-4SU Super Skyhawks, providing air superiority and medium-range strike capabilities. October 2007, Singapore orders another 12 F-15SGs, bringing its total to 24. Contract terms were not disclosed, but options generally allow the option holder to buy the new weapons at the same price as the original set. That would raise the overall order to about $3 billion by some estimates, though firm costs for the aircraft have not been releasaed. The F-15SG will be an advanced version of the U.S. Air Force's F-15E Strike Eagle, with minor customization to 's specifications and the most up-to-date avionics available. The higher-thrust GE F110 engine will be used in place the Pratt & Whitney F100 engines that power some F-16s and most F-15s. AN/APG-63v3 AESA radars will be included, and there are rumors that a number of Israeli electronics and self-defense systems will be part of the F-15SG as well. Sniper XR surveillance & ground targeting pods, and IRST systems built in for air-air engagements, will also be added to Singapore's standard equipment list. |
