Russian Eastern Military District's Su-35 fighter pilots perform air-to-air live firing exercises

The live-firing exercises took place at the sea range Zolotaya dolina in the sea zone of the Sea of Japan.

The Russian Defense Ministry also mentioned that these are the first missiles launches after the Eastern Military District had received 4++ generation aircraft.

Now in cooperation with Su-27 and MiG-31 crews the pilots will have to practice tactical elements using the unique capabilities of their multi-role fighters.

Tactical exercises of Russian fighter and attack aviation were held in Primorsky Krai under the leadership of the Commander of the Eastern Military District Air Force and Air Defence formation Major General Alexander Tatarenko on April 8-11. It involved about 500 servicemen and over 30 aircraft, such as Su-35, Su-27 and MiG-31.

The Su-35 (NATO code name: Flanker-E) is a single-seat, twin-engined multifunctional fighter aicraft designed and manufactured by the Russian Aviation Industry Sukhoi. Intended to gain air superiority and engage aerial and ground targets when performing autonomous and group combat actions, by day and night, in VFR and IFR weather conditions. Its first flight took place on February 19, 2008. On 18 August of the same year, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a contract for 48 Su-35S (Serial) fighters along with 16 Su-27/30 fighters to be delivered by 2015. The Russian Air Force reportedly has 34 Su-35S in inventory as of February 2014.

The Su-35 weaponry is arranged at 12 hardpoints and comprises RW-AE, R-27R1, R-27ER1. R-27T1, R-27ET1, and R-73E air-to-air missiles.
