Description
The Baron G58 ISR is a light, twin-engined piston aircraft developed by Beechcraft. It is specifically designed and equipped to perform Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions. This ISR version is mainly based on the Beechcraft Baron G58, which is a twin-piston aircraft derived from Baron G55. The G58 aircraft was first designed and manufactured in the name of Beechcraft Baron in 1969 by Beech Aircraft Corporation, which became a subsidiary of Raytheon Aircraft Company in 1980. The aircraft's maiden flight took place in June 1969 and it entered into service in 1970.

Beechcraft has long served the ISR markets with its range of King Air turboprops and first introduced a version of its twin-engine piston Baron G58 aircraft with ISR capabilities in 2012 at the Farnborough International Airshow. The company delivered the first Baron G58 with an ISR package in 2013 to the Fuerzas Unidas de Rápida Acción (FURA), an agency within the Puerto Rico Police Department that uses the aircraft for law enforcement surveillance missions within the region. Beechcraft Corporation announced during the Farnborough International Airshow 2014 that it has launched a new demonstrator dedicated to showcasing the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities of its Baron G58 piston-engine aircraft.

Design
Introduced for the model year 1969, the larger, more powerful Baron 58 version was developed from the Baron 55, introducing club seating, double aft baggage doors, and new gross weight of 5,400 lbs. The Beechcraft Baron G58 features a 137ft³ cabin. A large one-piece wrap around windshield and six very large side passenger windows are fitted in the cabin to enhance the visibility for both passengers and pilotThe cabin's length and height dimensions are 3.84m and 1.27m respectively. The cabin also comprises 1.1m x 0.8m double doors for the entry of passengers, a 0.93m x 0.91m single-piece forward door for passenger exit, and two centre windows for multiple emergency exits.. The Baron G58 ISR now features redesigned cockpit cabin seats and large doors for quick equipment install/removal. It has capability to operate from commercial airfields, as well as to take off and land from short and unimproved runways. The G58 ISR has a length of 9.09 m an height of 2.97 m and a wingspan of 11.53 m.
Propulsion
The Beechcraft Baron G58 ISR is powered by two Teledyne Continental IO-550-C with 300hp / 224 kW of output each. The IO-550-C engine is a six-cylinder, fuel-injected, air-cooled engine equipped with overhead inclined valve design. It can produce a crankshaft speed of 2,700rpm. A fuel tank of 963 lb / 437 kg allows up to 6 hours of mission. The Baron G58 ISR aircraft offers the reliability of twin engines, a max cruise speed of up to 352 kilometers per hour (190 knots), a range of 2,788 kilometers (1,500 nautical miles) and a service ceiling of 6,306 meters (20,688 feet).
Avionics
The Baron G58 ISR comes standard with a fully integrated Garmin® G1000® electronic flight display system. Garmin's G1000 is an all-glass avionics suite designed for OEM or custom retrofit installation on a range of aircraft. The G58 ISR features a Primary Flight Display (PFD) and a Multi-Function Display (MFD). A third screen is installed in front of the crew for information sharing with the operators. The G1000 replaces traditional mechanical gyroscopic flight instruments with our super-reliable GRS77 Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS). AHRS provides accurate, digital output and referencing of the aircraft position, rate, vector and acceleration data. G1000 also includes the GFC 700 autopilot. It is also equipepd with a Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS B), Traffic Advisory System, WX data link and a XM Radio and GWX 68 Satellite Color Weather Radar with Selectable Scan. The G58 ISR features Wing and horizontal stabilizer de-icing boot, and a digital 4-color, vertical profile weather radar. The cabin crew is fitted with automatic climate control system with air conditioning.
Mission capabilities
The Baron G58 ISR package includes a FLIR 230-HD electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) camera system, an operator’s console that houses the mapping/mission management computer, a recorder and a multi-band communications radio system and data link for special mission operators. The 230-HD EO/IR camera has the ability to virtually see both day and night, over land and water, in both good and poor weather. The mission mapping system provides the camera operator with a visual representation of the target location. The multi-band communications radio gives the flight crew and the sensor operator the ability to communicate directly with the military, police vehicles, coast guard and other maritime vessels and the recorder provides court admissible evidence for prosecution. The L-3 Wescam Mx-10 or the FLIR Systems HD380 ar also proposed by the aircraft manufacturer. The G58 ISR can be optionally fitted with Data link-Line of Sight and Satellite, Search and Rescue DF, and an Automatic Identification System (AIS).
