China's first peacekeeping helicopter detachment now fully operational
 
The United Nations charter plane carrying 99 members of China's first peacekeeping helicopter detachment took off from Beijing Capital International Airport for Darfur's Fashir, Sudan, at around 2:00 a.m. on August 19. So far, all 140 members of China's first peacekeeping helicopter detachment have been dispatched to their mission area in Sudan.

A see-off ceremony for the 99 peacekeepers was held at the Beijing Capital International Airport on the evening of August 18.

The first peacekeeping helicopter detachment of China consists of an aviation company, a maintenance company and a support company. The detachment is equipped with four Mi-171 mid-size multi-purpose helicopters which mainly carry out such tasks as air patrol , personnel and material transport.

China's first peacekeeping helicopter detachment has finished the assembly of their four Mi-171 medium multi-purpose helicopters on July 4 and been ready to undergo test flights as scheduled. The detachment will mainly conduct such peacekeeping missions as air patrol, battle reconnaissance, transportation of personnel and materials and so forth in the Darfur region of Sudan.
