"The decision has been made, and the aircraft has got its designation. From now on, we will entitle it Su-57," Bondarev said.

The media outlets previously wrote that the T-50 would get the Su-57 serial designation quoting unspecified sources in the aviation industry as saying.

The PAK FA made its maiden flight in 2010. The research-and-development works are reported to be finished in 2019; the beginning of the aircraft deliveries to the Armed Forces are also scheduled for the same year. According to the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) Yury Slyusar, the initial batch will comprise 12 aircraft.

The T-50 powered by a prospective (main) engine is reported to conduct its debut flight in Q4 2017. For now, it is fitted with the so-called first-stage engine. The new powerplant has yet to receive a name and is referred to as a second-stage engine.
