AVIC hands over two Y-12E aircraft to Costa Rica's Air Vigilance Service

On September 29, the aircraft manufacturer Aviation Industries Corporation of China (AVIC) delivered two Y-12Es to the Air Vigilance Service of Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Security. It marked the first time the HAIG’s products entered the Costa Rican market, AVIC announced on Oct. 11.

After the delivery, the two aircraft will serve as domestic transportation and air patrol units within Costa Rica, between the mainland and islands, and within islands, AVIC said on its website.

On September 26, Costa Rica’s acceptance team, accompanied by AVIC International Aero-Development Corporation staff, visited HAIG to accept the two Y-12Es. They inspected and accepted the logbooks, attached documents, aircraft appearance, and aircraft power-on operations, and also conducted an on-site test flight. As planned, the two aircraft were accepted after an October 9 ferry flight.

The Y12E is a variant with 18 passenger seats of the Harbin Y-12 twin-engine turboprop utility aircraft. It features PT6A-135A engines of equal horsepower but increased torque driving four-bladed propellers.

Costa Rica's Air Vigilance Service does not operate armed military aircraft. The aircraft and helicopters used by this unit include a few Cessna 210's & 206's, Piper PA-31T Cheyennes & PA-34 Senecas and Hughes 500 (369E).
