Sikorsky wins a $387mn contract from US Army for 35 UH-60M helicopters
 
Sikorsky Aircraft has been awarded a $387,181,200 contract to exercise the option for 35 UH-60M helicopters, the US Department of Defense announce yesterday on its website. Work will be performed in Stratford, Connecticut, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2016.

The US Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity, said the US DoD.

The UH-60M utility helicopter is the most modern variant of the famous Black Hawk family. The UH-60M is designed to replace the older UH-60A model and is the centerpiece of the US Army's long-term effort to modernize the service's medium-lift helicopter fleet. Sikorsky Aircraft has manufactured Black Hawk helicopters since 1978.

The UH-60M has multi-mission capabilities and features improved design wide chord rotor blades, improved durability gearbox, Integrated Vehicle Management Systems computer, and new glass cockpit. It is powered by T-1700-GE-701D engines (2,000 shp each).
