US Army issued a RFI for new fixed-wing utility aircraft
 
The US Army has issued a new Request for Information for new fixed-wing utility aircraft. According to the Army Contracting Command – Redstone (ACC – RSA), which is running the process on behalf of the Fixed Wing Project Office, a Request for Proposals will follow later this month.

The RfI is for the procurement of 92 Fixed-Wing Utility Aircraft (FUA). The contract will also include the integration of subsystems, technical data/documentation, training and testing. In overall, the new aircraft shall be based on a commercial type certified aircraft that will undergo minor modifications for Military Equipment Packages (MEP) that would include communications, navigation and surveillance systems, as well as aircraft survivability equipment, engineering services, Government testing to ensure compliance with the US Army’s airworthiness requirements.

The project is aiming at the replacement of the US Army’s 117 Beechraft C-12 Huron, acquired in mid-70s and the Fairchild C-26 Metroliner, which has its first units delivered in 1989. These aircraft are also fielded by the US Navy, US Air Force and other federal agencies. Both types are used for liaison, intelligence gathering, reconnaissance and general cargo transport. The C-12 is based on the Beechcraft Super King Air and the C-26 is the military designation of the Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner.
