Malaysia's second Airbus A400M military airlifter landed at Subang airbase
 
The 2nd Airbus A400m military airlifter ordered for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) landed today at Subang airbase, escorted by two MiG-29 fighter jets. The aircraft, numbered M-54-02, is the second on a batch of four A400M airlifters ordered in 2005.

The four A400Ms will not replace the Royal Malaysian Air Force's Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules, but serve to double the RMAF's airlift capacity. The RMAF's A400Ms are to be opertated by a new squadron, No 22 Sqn, formed for the aircraft.

The third aircraft will be delivered in late 2016 and the fourth will be coming home in early 2017.

The Airbus A400M is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. It was designed by Airbus Military as a tactical airlifter with strategic capabilities. The A400M is capable of carrying a load of 32 tonnes over a range of 2300nmls. The aircraft is capable of operating either at low-level (down to 150ft agl) or at high-level altitudes to 11,300m, and can deploy troops and/or equipment between and within theatres of operation either by parachute (up to 108 paratroopers), or by landing on short, unprepared or semi-prepared strips.
