US to sell large aircraft IR countermeasures systems to India


The US State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to India of Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) Self-Protection Suites (SPS) for 2 Head-of-State 777 aircraft, for an estimated cost of $US 190 million.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of India's request also includes the ALQ-211(V)8 Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS), ALE-47 Counter-Measures Dispensing System (CMDS), and 23 Missile Warning Sensors (MWS) among other support technology.

Also included in this sale are publications and technical documentation, training and training equipment, field service representatives; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistical and program support.
