Australia: New Dassault Falcon 7x special purpose aircraft arrive

The first of the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) new Dassault Falcon 7X aircraft arrived in Canberra on April 16.

Apache attack helicopters deployed in Estonia

The British Army announced on April 15 that Apache attack helicopters had been deployed in Estonia. The exact number of rotary wings concerned was not specified. It is known, however, that the helicopters will remain there for three months.

Northrop Grumman awarded $3.2 billion for 24 E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes for US Navy

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a multi-year contract modification to deliver an additional 24 E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft to the U.S. Navy. The fixed-price-incentive-firm contract is valued at $3.2 billion; the contract also includes an option for nine additional foreign military sales aircraft. Production of the 24 U.S. Navy aircraft funded by the five-year contract is expected to be complete in 2026.

The largest plane in the world makes its first flight

Stratolaunch Systems Corporation, founded by Paul G. Allen, successfully completed the first flight of the world’s largest all-composite aircraft, the Stratolaunch. With a dual fuselage design and wingspan greater than the length of an American football field, the Stratolaunch aircraft took flight at 0658 PDT from the Mojave Air & Space Port. Achieving a maximum speed of 189 miles per hour, the plane flew for 2.5 hours over the Mojave Desert at altitudes up to 17,000 feet. As part of the initial flight, the pilots evaluated aircraft performance and handling qualities before landing successfully back at the Mojave Air and Space Port.

Lebanon receives ScanEagle drones

On April 3, the Lebanese army announced on its Twitter account that it has received six Scan Eagle drone systems from the United States. The US Embassy in Lebanon confirmed this information in the wake.

Russian Helicopters presented a mockup of the VRT500 at Milan Design Week

The design bureau VR-Technologies, subsidiary of Rostec's Russian Helicopters holding company, presented a mockup of the light multi-purpose helicopter VRT500 at the Fuorisalone exhibition (part of the Milan Design Week, held April 8–14). The helicopter model is presented at the exhibition of ItalDesign, which was one of the developer companies of VRT500.
