At this 14h edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition, the South Korean aircraft manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries is highlighting an export armed variant of its well-known KT-1 basic trainer aircraft, the KT-1C.

The KT-1C is based on the successful KT-1 turboprop trainer of which a total of more than 100 aircraft will be delivered to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF), with additional aircraft on order from other countries.

KAI's KT-1C light attack aircraft is an improved, armed export version of the KT-1 equipped with a centreline forward looking infrared pod. It may also be equipped with a 12.7 mm gun pod, chaffes, flares, training missiles, LAU-131/A 7-round 70 mm rocket launchers or Mk82 unguided bombs.

The KT-1C is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-62 engine (950 hp). It features a maximum speed of 570 km/h, with a range of 1,300 km and a service ceiling of 11,580 m.

It provides more reliable mission capabilities with the latest systems, such as Night Vision Imaging System, OBOGS, Anti-G, Pressurization, and 0-0 Ejection Seat.

The KT-1C's core avionics is equipped with the CMC Electronics SparrowHawk HUD with an Up Front Control Panel (UFCP) and two powerful FV-4000 open architecture Mission Computers for built-in redundancy. In addition, the primary navigation source is an INS/GPS with an Air Data Computer. The CMC Electronics FV-4000 Mission Computer is based on CompactPCI/PMC open architecture and features a 500 MHz power PC processor.

The KT-1C's all-glass cockpit features three MFDs in the front cockpit and three aft to provide primary flight displays, tactical flight maps with flight plans, moving digital maps, stores management, engine monitoring data, and maintenance pages for both diagnostic and system initialization.
