Russia has sold at least 19 helicopters to Azerbaijan in 2011 and is to sell another 32 this year.

The Moscow-based Centre for Strategic and Technological Analysis said that in 2011 Russia sold Azerbaijan at least 15 helicopters in the Mi-8/17 series and four Mi-35 helicopters.

The centre said that Russia was expected to sell Azerbaijan around 20 Mi-17 series helicopters and at least 12 Mi-35 military helicopters this year, Russian news agency RIA-Novosti reported.

The Mi-35M is an upgrade version of the combat helicopter Mi-24 which features enhanced combat efficiency thanks to improved flight performance, round-the-clock employment capability, and modernised weapons systems.

The upgraded helicopter is capable of carrying out a wider range of combat missions, including air reconnaissance with real-time target location and designation, by day and night, in all weather conditions.
