Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will provide the development and test of an ARTS-V2 production representative article and options to produce up to 20 systems.

"Work is expected to be complete by June 30, 2027. This award is the result of a competitive acquisition with two offers received. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, is the contracting activity," the US DoD added.

According to the US Air Force, the Advanced Radar Threat System (ARTS) program will develop, design, build and test threat system simulators based on advanced foreign fielded surface-to-air missile (SAM) radar threat systems. The ARTS-Variant 1 (ARTS-V1) is focused on strategic, long-range, re-locatable radar threat systems while ARTS-Variant 2 (ARTS-V2) is focused on tactical, mobile, short/medium-range radar threat systems.

ARTS is designed to be used at the US DoD training ranges for aircrew training and tactics development to increase combat effectiveness and aircrew survivability by training aircrews to engage or defend agains an advanced SAM threat before encountering it in actual combat.
