It added that the Il-112V’s wing was a one-piece structure - a feature of the advanced light airlifter, which will reduce its weight and increase its operational efficiency.

"The one-piece wing has equipped a Russian transport plane for the first time," the press office commented.

"The airframe of the Il-112V’s first prototype will have been completed before the end of February. Then, the installation of the engines, systems and equipment will follow. The aircraft is being built from Russian-made components only and will have the avionics based on only Russian-made electronic componentry. At the same time, the construction of a second prototype for the structural and endurance tests is in progress," VASO explained.

Ilyushin has been developing the advanced Russian-made Il-112V military transport aircraft under the R&D order placed by the Russian Defense Ministry. The light airlifter with a maximum payload of 5 tons is designed to haul troops, combat gear and cargo and replace the Antonov An-24 (Coke) and An-26 (Curl) turboprop transports.

The maiden flight of the Il-112V, which prime contractor is VASO, is slated for July 1, 2017. According to Il-112V Program Manager Dmitry Savelyev, the Russian Aerospace Force alone needs 35 planes of the type. VASO is capable of building 12 aircraft per year.
