"Work will be performed at Poway, California, and is expected to be completed by May 31, 2019. This award is the result of a sole-source acquisition. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity," the US DoD said.

The MQ-9 Reaper is an armed, multi-mission, medium-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft that is employed primarily against dynamic execution targets and secondarily as an intelligence collection asset. As of September 2015, the US Air Force operates a total of 93 MQ-9 UAVs.

The Reaper is powered by a sole Honeywell TPE331-10GD turboprop engine (900 shp) and has a cruise speed of 370 km/h. The aircraft can carry a combination of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, GBU-12 Paveway II and GBU-38 Joint Direct Attack Munitions.
