The Progress Aircraft-Manufacturing Enterprise is a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters Group within Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec.

The take-off in the hovering mode was performed as part of the helicopter prototype’s factory flight trials and was successful, the press office added.

During the first flight, the Ka-62 helicopter prototype took off to assess its general working capacity and check the operation of its main electric power supply systems and onboard equipment.

The prototype was operated by test pilots of the Kamov Design Bureau, which is the main developer of the helicopter.
Earlier, the prototype successfully passed a set of engine ground runs.

"This is a very important event for Russian Helicopters Group and a legitimate result of our work," Russian Helicopters CEO Alexander Mikheyev said.

"The new Ka-62 helicopter will join the group of civil versions of the most widely used Mi-8/17 [NATO reporting name: Hip] rotorcraft and fill the extremely required niche in a group of helicopters with a take-off weight of six-seven tons," he added.

The Ka-62 helicopter was developed to accomplish a wide range of tasks. It can be used to transport passengers, conduct search and rescue operations and work in the oil and gas industry.

The helicopter’s spacious and comfortable cabin allows it to carry out corporate transportations.

The helicopter’s high power supply capacity allows operating it at various altitudes. The Ka-62 helicopter can be used in hot weather conditions. It can also perform flights over seas.
