Nexter Systems at Paris Air Show 2013

Nexter Systems a full range of weapons & turrets for aircraft and helicopters at Paris Air Show 2013.

The French Company Nexter Systems presents a full range of weapons and turrets for aircraft and helicopters at Paris Air Show 2013. The cannon is a complementary weapon of missiles and rockets for combat helicopters and remains irreplaceable for short and very short range. It is also the weapon of close combat and self defense for transport or observation helicopters. In order to best meet the needs of the military and enable them to fulfill their missions, Nexter offers cannon mounts and turrets for helicopters in service with many armed forces.

Nexter THL 20 cannon turret on Romanian helicopter IAR Brasov 330

Nexter offers two turrets THL 20 and THL 30, both designed to equip attack, transport and observation helicopters. Developed around a common architecture, these turrets can be integrated into the weapon system of the helicopter. Operated via a digital sighting system (nose and roof mounted sights, sights), these turrets/ cannons offer a remarkable precision and allow to effectively engage long-range air and ground targets.

The THL 30, is the only weapon-turret (equipped with the 30M781 cannon) capable and integrated on the Franco-German Tiger combat helicopter in its protection version. The THL 30’s biggest asset is its exceptional accuracy (less than 1 milliradian in operational use) allowing engagement of air and ground targets from greater distances The THL 30 was commissioned by France (89), Australia (22) and Spain (18). Production series is underway and nearly 111 THL 30 turrets were delivered.

Inheriting all the advantages of THL30, the THL 20 was built around the 20 M 621 20mm cannon. Light (164 kg in total, of which 49 kg for the barrel), this turret has a small footprint while its speed and accuracy are identical to those of the THL 30. The THL 20 turret is the only turret equipped with a 20 mm cannon capable and June 17-23, 2013 integrated on new or upgraded helicopters. The integration constraints of THL 20 (mass, size, recoil force) and its simplicity of implementation and maintenance make it a turret-cannon particularly well- suited for upgrading existing helicopters.

The THL 20 was selected by the Indian Army for the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) program, with an initial order of 20 units. It is also equipment on the the 24 IAR Brasov 330 helicopters of the Romanian Army. In 2008, a THL 20 demonstrator suitable for Black Hawk helicopter was built and tested successfully for air to air and air to ground attacks.

The SH 20 was chosen by the French army to equip the EC725 and COUGAR helicopters of the Special Forces. It is today qualified on COUGAR and the qualification is in progress on the EC725.

Latest development in the family of mounts for the 20mm Sabord Helicopter (SH 20) can be fitted to any multi-mission helicopter to strengthen its capacity for self-defence and fire support air-ground. This arrangement differs from its competitors with its retractable function ensuring the operational discretion of the user. The retract ability also allows completely free access to the cabin of the helicopter during loading / unloading. With firepower of 20 mm, plus a high speed of implementation with a speed of deployment of a few seconds.
